Ireland - Transport - Trains

Train travel is a good way to get around Ireland with an efficient network operated by Iarnród Éireann which connects most major towns and cities with intercity services. Train travel is the fastest way to get around Ireland though the network is routed through Dublin and there are few services that run north - south, and, while you can get a train to the West Coast, it is not possible to explore that area by train.

If you intend to travel extensively by train there are a number of travel passes for trains and those that combine train and bus travel. Contact Iarnród Éireann for details.

Dublin also has the DART service (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) - an electrified service operating along the East Coast Howth in the North to Bray in the South. The trains are very frequent during rush hours and connect with many bus services.
