Ireland - Tourist Information -

Health, Hospitals and Pharmacies

Health

Visitors to Ireland from other European Union or European Economic Area (EEA) member states and Switzerland are entitled to free emergency health services. You should bring your E1-11 form with you when you are travelling to Ireland (unless you are from the UK where you should carry evidence of UK residence).

Students from EU/EEA countries or Switzerland are entitled to emergency services.

Other visitors to Ireland are not entitled to free or subsidised public health services except in cases of hardship. In general, if you have to use health services, you must pay the full economic cost of those services therefore it is important to make sure you are covered by medical insurance.

Department of Health and Children

Hospitals

If you need an ambulance call 999 and give the operator a detailed explanation of your location, and the nature of the emergency. This is a free call from any public phone box.

Accident and emergency departments at local hospitals will treat serious injury and sudden illness. If it is not an emergency you should go to a doctor. The following hospitals have 24-hour walk-in accident and emergency departments.
