Where We Are

Tubrid, Kenmare, Kerry, Ker

Kenmare is magnificently situated at the point where the River Roughty opens into the estuary of the Kenmare Bay. Kenmare nestles among the mountains of Cork and Kerry, hence its Irish name "Neidín" meaning " Little Nest" or "Little Cradle". The town was founded in 1670 by Sir William Petty on land assigned to him by the English Government . A prehistoric stone ring indicates settlement here thousands of years ago. The charming picturesque town is a good example of one of Ireland's planned towns. The town is the first Heritage town in County Kerry. The Heritage Centre is located in the Courthouse where Kenmare's history is displayed. The old Kenmare seems to have evolved comfortably into the present. Old pubs, shops selling fine local craftwork, accommodation from hostels to top grade hotels, restaurants to suit every taste and pocket, touring, golf, fishing, and boating - all these have grown organically in The Little Nest, surrounded by the wild beauty of the Kerry mountains, the great bay, and the wooded Roughty Valley. Quite apart from the splendour of its own setting, Kenmare is also an ideal centre for exploring the beauties of the south west of Ireland.

How To Reach Us

By Plane
Your plane may arrive at Dublin international airport, placed 350 kilometres from Kenmare, or at the smaller terminal that serves County Kerry, Farranfore: the latter is 50 kms far from the property, welcoming flights from London, Manchester, Frankfurt and various islands in Spain.

By Car
From Dublin airport, you will have to drive around 5 hours to reach the inn. Take highway M1 southbound towards Dublin City Centre and get off quickly at junction 3, and take the 3rd exit on the roundabout onto M50 Southbound. Travel for 13Kms to the toll bridge (€2 approx for a car). Continue until junction 9 and take the N7 which will bring you straight onto highway M7. After you pass the town of Mountrath, drive along N7, N20, N21 and once in Castleland, continue onto N23. Turn left onto N22 heading towards Killarney. Then take the N71. This road leads out of Killarney and towards Kenmare. But in order to reach Sea Shore Farm Guesthouse you must abandon it before town, at the junction with N70. Veer right into N70 (Sneem Road) and after Kenmare Holiday Village appears on your left hand side, turn left into Tubrid road, a by-road. Keep on along this track for 300 metres and you will come to the property.

If your plane lands in Farranfore, the journey is way shorter, lasting around 45 minutes. You must turn left in motorway N22 and follow the indications already described. Meanwhile, from the centre of Kenmare there are two ways to reach the inn by car. One is taking road N71 towards Killarney and turning left at the junction with N70 (notice that there is a petrol station); the alternative way is through the seashore road: from the centre of town go along N71, immediately afterwards veer left at the sign indicating "Kenmare Products" shop and drive one mile along the seashore of the bay.

By Train
The best way to reach Sea Shore Farm Guesthouse by public transport is by train: at Heuston station in Dublin, get on a train to Mallow and then another to Killarney (the journey takes around 3 hours and a half). The latter is the closest railway station to the property -30 kms distance approx.-: from here there are buses reaching Kenmare in 30 minutes. At Dublin airport you can take a bus to the centre of the city (direction: Dublin Busβras, Store St - 35 minutes), while at Kerry airport you will find connections by bus to Killarney. Finally, once you reach the centre of Kenmare you will have to rent a car or take a taxi, as there are no public buses going around the town.
