Neidín is the Gaelic name forKenmare meaning little nest. Kenmare, know as 'The Jewel on the Ring of Kerry' is a charming town nestling at the foot of the Cork and Kerry mountains in the south west of Ireland. It offers an abundance of places to visit and see. Kenmare is a Heritage Town it is one of the very few planned towns, it was founded in 1670 by Sir William Petty. It is Kerry, first Heritage Town. |
Kenmare was awarded Ireland's Best Kept Town in year 2000. The area has breathtaking scenery from mountains, sea, lakes and woodlands it also enjoys a mild climate. Kenmare has much more to offer golfing, horseriding, cycling, walking including hillwalking and much more. Kenmare is a perfect base. The fomous Ring of Kerry scenic drive is 175 km ( 110 miles ) it is well known all around the world it follows the coastline around the Iveragh Peninsula and is one of the most drametic drives in the country. |
The Ring of Beara, which lies south of Kenmare, it is more rugged with spectacular views. The Healy Pass cuts across the Cacha mountains and offers fine views of Bantry Bay. Other day trips to enjoy are to Killarney where you can visit Muckross House and gardens and Killarney national park. A visit to Glengarriff and Bantry. A day in Kenmare is a must to enjoy the numerous craft and gift shops Kenmare lace and design centre, our Lady's well, Kenmare stone circle and Cromwell's Bridge and thats just some of the things to do, so a visit to Kerry is not complete without trip to Kenmare. |
