Although
Irish cuisine is usually associated with meat there is a strong
sea food based cuisine along the south west coast of Ireland, close
to the clean fisheries of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Irish oyster, or the European Flat Oyster, was coveted by the Romans
and each
September the South West of Ireland hosts oyster and mussels festivals
to celebrate the beginning of the oyster season.
