Walking
Ireland offers a huge variety for walkers, from great ridge walks to gentle rambles across the moors or along country lanes. There are many way marked coastal routes where mountains rise straight out of the sea or you can walk for hours along the beach without encountering another human being. While walking through the national parks it is not unusual to spot red deer, otters and other wildlife that has all but disappeared in the rest of Europe.
Walking Tips
Climate
Ireland's temperate climate means it does not get too hot in summer, or very cold in winter. But the climate is changeable and good raingear is essential and sensible waterproof footwear is advisable.
Farmland Code of Conduct
Much walking or access to walking tracks is via farmland which is private property. Access is made through the goodwill and tolerance of farmers and if crossing farmland make sure your presence is unobtrusive and does not interfere with farming activities. Close all gates behind you, take care not to damage fences, stiles or interfere with livestock.
